Near to the small Village of Ballindalloch nestled in the Spey Valley lies the Glenlivet Distillery who proudly hold the accolade of the oldest legal distillery of the Glenlivet parish. Founded by George Smith in 1824 it has produced Whisky continuously except for a brief period during World War II. The name Glenlivet is taken from the Gaelic and is believed to refer to the nearby River Livet and translates to the Valley of the smooth flowing one.
Glenlivet 12 Year Old in its time has been called a lot of things a classic, sophisticated, smooth, complex, fruity and entertaining. The Glenlivet 12 Year Old has been described as a classic and the most loved malt around the world and this is undoubtedly so. This signature malt represents the Glenlivet style. Traditionally maturing in oak casks then being transferred to American oak casks this gives the Whisky its distinctive smoothness and rich vanilla notes. For mashing and fermentation mineral rich water is drawn from Josie’s Well.
